Our Mission

FOUNDED IN 2022 BY DEIDRE PRICE, JAYCE’S JOURNEY INC. WAS BORN FROM A MOTHER’S FIRSTHAND EXPERIENCE NAVIGATING HER SON JAYCE’S AUTISM DIAGNOSIS AT JUST TWO YEARS OLD, AND THE OVERWHELMING LACK OF CLEAR, EQUITABLE ACCESS TO INFORMATION, TOOLS, AND SUPPORT THAT SO MANY FAMILIES FACE. JAYCE, WHO WAS ORIGINALLY DIAGNOSED AS NON-VERBAL AND WOULD COMMUNICATE THROUGH AMERICAN SIGN LANGUAGE AND ASSISTIVE TECHNOLOGY, RECEIVES SPEECH AND OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY, DIR FLOORTIME, AND BIOMEDICAL TREATMENT PAIRED WITH NEUROREHABILITATION, ALL OF WHICH HAVE PLAYED A CRITICAL ROLE IN HIS DEVELOPMENTAL PROGRESS.

It was an honor to be recognized in my hometown. @moneygreen uses his platform and influence to advocate for autism awareness and acceptance and has played a major roll in autism inclusion within the @warriors organization.

Did you know that the Chase Center has a wellness and sensory room to accommodate guest experiencing sensory needs? In addition, staff members are trained to assist in sensory overload situation and the Chase Center is now a certified sensory inclusive venue.

Last week was our first day of our new speech ther

Last week was our first day of our new speech therapy. Jayce aged out of all his therapy services through the regional center when he turned 3 in February and it’s taken us 10 months to find a quality provider who can give in person sessions. After searching high & low, being on waitlist after waitlist & switching insurances we finally figured it out. He’s now doing 2 sessions per week along with his school schedule & we’ll be adding OT sessions next month. Another step in the right direction, celebrating each win as we go! 💙

Every single day he does something new that amazes

Every single day he does something new that amazes me. I rarely catch it on film but tonight I got him proving to me yet again just how amazing his brain works. 3 years old spelling & typing 5 letter words associated with an action. I normally type in “sleep” and find a lullaby for him to fall asleep to. For the past few weeks he’s been wanting to pick out his own song. He recently started selecting sleep meditation music such as rain sounds which I thought was pretty interesting. Tonight when I went to search he beat me to it and did it himself. I have the biggest smile on my face as I write this while he lays on me 🤗… good job smarty pants 👏🏾

Starting school was a process 💆🏽‍♀️💆🏽…We found an amazing private school that’s inclusive of special needs children 🫶🏽 but after our 1st 4 days the teacher & director suggested that Jayce obtain a 1:1 aide to assist him because the loud environment was overstimulating & he could benefit from extra direction to help him transition. I always thought an aide was more so for special needs kids with behavioral or safety issues, so the news was hard for me to process (yal know I cried my little face off per usual). It took us soooo long to find a school that was a good fit for him so it seemed like as soon as we took one step forward we took 4 steps back. After 3 weeks we found an aide through his DIR therapy agency & got it approved through insurance. Once he was able to go back to school he got sick after 4 days and missed another week. Then got sick again after 3 days and missed 2 more weeks 🤧. I think we’re finally rolling now and the good new is his side is AMAZING!!! She’s so helpful and he loves her! She’s my second pair of eyes and ears while he’s at school and she’s right there to hold his hand and even give him some extra hugs when he needs it…. Okayyyy school boyyy 😍😍😍

At 3 years old reading at a kindergarten level… next week we’ll try 1st grade level reading to keep him challenged.

When your mom makes you go back to school but you would rather be at home with your Granny on your iPad 😠

When Jayce turned 3 he aged out of early intervent

When Jayce turned 3 he aged out of early intervention services so we’ve been on the hunt for therapy vendors for the last 6 months. After going through several evaluations, fighting & advocating with the school district, doctors, insurance, and even offering to pay privately we finally made it to the top of the waitlist & had our first day of ABA therapy (behavioral therapy that is typically recommended for autistic children). His morning & afternoon therapists spent the day getting to know Jayce by identifying his strengths and challenges. Our first day went a little something like this….

Disclaimer : Jayce also needs speech and occupational therapy even more than he needs ABA because his challenges are more so in speech & sensory as opposed to behaviors. Unfortunately, there’s a shortage of therapists/availability because of covid and because of the increasing demand due to the rising number of autism diagnosis - so we haven’t found placements as of yet. Many parents are faced with this issue and children are going without services or are receiving low quality services because that is all that’s available. Stick around as we continue to share our journey & highlight these issues as we go.
